Protest march in Thessaloniki marking the anniversary of Alexandros Grigoropoulos’ killing
Thousands of protesters gathered in Thessaloniki on December 6 to mark the anniversary of the killing of Alexandros Grigoropoulos, a 15-year-old student who was shot by a police officer in Athens in 2008.
The annual demonstrations, held in cities across Greece, are organized by student groups, political organizations and activists. Participants marched through the city center carrying banners and chanting slogans against police violence and state repression.
The protests are a recurring moment of political mobilization in Greece, particularly among youth movements, and often include marches, rallies and acts of remembrance for the teenager whose death triggered widespread unrest across the country. Photos Angelos Zymaras / MedPress
