Paris, France — November 5, 2026
Workers, students and trade union supporters marched through Paris on Thursday as part of nationwide demonstrations demanding higher wages and defending public services, jobs and study conditions.
The CGT reported nearly 1.6 million demonstrators across France, including 350,000 in Paris. The Interior Ministry recorded 575,000 participants nationwide, including 65,000 in the capital.
The Paris demonstration followed a route from Place de la République towards Place de la Nation via Boulevard Voltaire. Police charges near Charonne interrupted the procession before demonstrators continued towards Nation.
According to the account accompanying Pablo Diaz Arbelaez’s photographs, several demonstrators were injured, and further tensions and clashes marked the end of the demonstration at Nation.
