PARIS, FRANCE – OCTOBER 24, 2026: Yellow Vest protesters joined trade unionists and other demonstrators in Paris on Saturday, demanding social and economic justice amid anger over living costs, inequality and restrictions on demonstrations.
The mobilisation brought together different strands of France’s protest movement, including supporters of improved public services and education. Participants carried handmade placards, union flags and banners, with some using costumes and satirical props to criticise fuel prices and economic hardship.
The demonstration took place after President Emmanuel Macron called for restrictions on protests not organised by trade unions. Authorities restricted routes in Paris, with a march permitted between Porte d’Italie and Porte de Vincennes.
While large crowds marched peacefully, confrontations broke out between some demonstrators and riot police. Gianni Esposito’s photographs document close encounters between officers and protesters, followed by scenes of demonstrators moving through clouds of tear gas.
