KARBALA, IRAQ – AUGUST 3, 2026: Shiite Muslim pilgrims pray, mourn and take part in religious rituals in and around the shrine of Imam Hussein in the holy city of Karbala during the annual Arbaeen pilgrimage. Arbaeen, observed 40 days after Ashura, commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, at the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD.
