BELGRADE, SERBIA – OCTOBER 25–26, 2026: Residents returned to Pionirski Park in central Belgrade as barriers came down following parliamentary elections, reopening a public space that had housed a pro-government encampment.
Photographs by Vladimir Lionter document the transition across two days: the fenced-off park on the night of October 25, followed by students cleaning the grounds and people gathering to celebrate on October 26.
Located between Serbia’s Parliament and Presidency buildings, the park had become a focal point of the country’s political divisions. Its reopening brought residents, volunteers and municipal workers together to remove rubbish and dismantle the remains of the encampment.
The photographs follow both the celebrations and the practical work of returning the park to everyday public use.
