Oinoi, Attica, Greece — July 5, 2026. Firefighters battled a fast-moving wildfire that broke out near Oinoi in the municipality of Mandra-Eidyllia, west of Athens, as strong winds and dry vegetation fueled the flames.
A large firefighting operation involving more than 150 firefighters, specialized forest firefighting teams, firefighting aircraft, helicopters and volunteers was launched to contain the blaze before it could threaten nearby communities. Authorities activated the 112 emergency alert system, urging residents to remain on standby, while traffic restrictions and rail disruptions were introduced in the wider area.
The wildfire occurred during a period of very high fire danger across Attica, where extreme weather conditions have significantly increased the risk of rapidly spreading fires.
