Hundreds of protesters marched through central Athens on Tuesday in an anti-war demonstration opposing the visit of US Secretary of State MARCO RUBIO to Greece.
The mobilization brought together political organizations, trade unions, workers, students and solidarity groups, with demonstrators carrying Palestinian flags and banners condemning US foreign policy, NATO, Israel’s war in Gaza and Greece’s involvement in military alliances.
Members and supporters of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) also took part in the protest, holding a separate rally before leaving the demonstration.
Police forces, including riot police, were deployed along the route and formed barriers at several points in the city centre. During the march, protesters threw red paint onto the street, symbolizing bloodshed caused by US-led wars.
The demonstration was part of a wider series of protests against Rubio’s visit, with participants expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people and calling for Greece to stay out of military conflicts.
