


Hundreds of residents displaced by the Gironde wildfires remain at Bordeaux's emergency shelter as extreme heat and firefighting operations continue.
BORDEAUX, France — July 30, 2026: Evacuated residents rest inside the emergency shelter established at the Parc des Expositions de Bordeaux after being displaced by the Gironde wildfires near Bordeaux. Five days after arriving at the shelter, many evacuees remained unable to return home as temperatures reached approximately 38°C. French Civil Protection teams, volunteers and local authorities continued to provide accommodation, food and essential services, while dedicated areas were also established to shelter and care for pets evacuated with their owners.
