Local farmers, volunteer firefighters and Belgian emergency crews work side by side to contain persistent hotspots near Pierroton as the Gironde wildfires continue.
PIERROTON, France - July 2026: Farmers, volunteer firefighters and Belgian firefighting crews work together near the village of Pierroton, west of Bordeaux, as they extinguish persistent wildfire hotspots left by the Gironde fires. Local farmers supplied water from private reservoirs and operated pumps to support firefighters working along the active fire front near Le Temple. Among them is Thierry, a 60-year-old farmer who volunteers with the fire service every summer and has spent more than a week working long shifts during the emergency.
