At 86, Hajja Amira Refuses to Leave Her Home in Nabatieh

NABATIEH, LEBANON – AUGUST 2026: Hajja Amira Salloum, 86, stands outside her home near Nabatieh’s historic souk, an area repeatedly hit during the 2026 conflict. Salloum has remained in the city despite the escalation in hostilities. She says her husband and one of her sons were killed in Israeli attacks since fighting intensified in October 2023 and keeps their photographs displayed at the entrance to her home. “Here, not even the children are afraid.
