Police, Firefighters and Other Uniformed Personnel Rally in Thessaloniki Ahead of Trade Fair

THESSALONIKI, GREECE – SEPTEMBER 4, 2026: Police officers, firefighters, coastguard personnel and members of the armed forces take part in a nationwide demonstration near the White Tower in Thessaloniki, one day before the opening of the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s annual economic policy address. The demonstrators demanded salary increases, the restoration of the 13th and 14th salaries and improvements to their working conditions. Following speeches, participants marched towards the Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace, passing the memorial to police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis. His parents stood at the head of the march.
