Hundreds of social workers in Barcelona demand better working conditions.

Barcelona, Spain – October 7, 2026
Hundreds of workers from the Catalan social services sector marched through the streets of Barcelona on Wednesday morning to demand better working conditions, protest their precarious employment situation, and call for equal pay.
The sector, which serves approximately two million people, is demanding a single collective bargaining agreement for all workers, in contrast to the current fragmentation, which has resulted in 17 separate agreements whose renewal is currently stalled.
The organizing unions denounce the "unsustainable precariousness" of the sector, which serves approximately two million people. The march proceeded from Parc de la Ciutadella to the headquarters of Foment del Treball (the Catalan employers' association).
