TIRANA, ALBANIA — OCTOBER 2026 — Student demonstrations over university conditions, education costs and employment prospects converged with a months-long anti-government protest movement in Albania.
Calls for Prime Minister Edi Rama’s resignation accompanied confrontations in the capital. Some demonstrators threw stones and other projectiles, while police deployed tear gas and water cannon. Fires, damaged property, injuries and allegations of excessive police force marked the unrest.
Through photographs of crowds, placards, confrontations and the streets after clashes, Marviks Shantoja documents both the intensity of the protests and the people taking part.
